Ravenshaw Collegiate School, Cuttack

Ravenshaw Collegiate School, Cuttack, is a premier educational institution of Odisha. It was founded in 1851 by Thomas Edward Ravenshaw, the then Commissioner of Orissa. Mr. Ravenshaw, along with his wife Mary founded not only this school, but also Ravenshaw Girls’ School and Ravenshaw College. He valued education and his initial ideas were reflected in all the three institutions. It was a privilege to be a student in these institutions.

No wonder, the alumni list of Ravenshaw Collegiate School reads like a directory of Who’s Who. It comprises of nationalist leaders like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Founder of Indian National Army, Freedom fighter Sri Madhusudan Das, Sri Bijayananda Patnaik, an eminent politician and entrepreneur, many noted artists, able administrators, judges and other prominent people from different walks of life.

However, as time went by and as the world around changed, certain complacency set in. The wake-up call came in the 1970s  when some of the alumni realized that a lot needs to be done to bring back the glorious past. An Old Students’ Association was formed and school betterment process started, albeit at a snail’s pace.

When ‘Mo School Abhiyan’ was launched in 2017, the Association was delighted that they now have a platform to make their efforts quicker and more effective. Smart classes were built, a state of the art Reading Room was added to the library and major upliftment of other infrastructure was undertaken. The work may have just begun, but it is progressing in the right direction. The current Headmaster of Ravenshaw Collegiate School, Smt. Anusmita Swain is very happy. She is very appreciative of the collaborative endeavor and hopes that this heritage school becomes one of the best in the country both aesthetically and academically.
