Christo Jyoti High School, Bargarh : Scaling new heights

Nestled amidst the hamlets of Bargarh is Christo Jyoti High School at Madhupur. The only high school in the gram panchayat, the institute has a legacy of producing scholars over the years. But it wasn’t an overnight process, the teachers had to toil hard, to stimulate the intellectual faculty of the school children.
Now, the alumni of the school, well established in their respective professional fields, have come forward to bring a 180-degree change in the school’s infrastructure and academics. Apart from contributing financially through Mo School programme, they are taking classes, holding inspirational talk sessions and mentoring students and being a part of the development process in practice.

Let’s start from the beginning. Under the leadership of Fr. Richard, the then Parish priest of Madhupur Catholics Schools’ Committee, the school was upgraded from the status of a M.E school to High School and two hostels too came into existence. In 1996, the school received Grant-in-Aid from the state government. Since then it has never looked back and has been delivering stellar performance in terms of academics and co-curricular activities.
Just three years ago, with the combined efforts of the ex D.E.O, Bargarh Sri P.K. Joshi, D.S.S. Sri Manoj Sahu, the then ex B.E.O (In-charge) Sri Hemasagar Mohanand, ex HM of the school Sri Agasti Bhoi, the school got associated with ‘Mo School Abhiyan’. The school received ₹8,37,300 from the alumni members and ₹16,74,600 from the state government under the Abhiyan, totaling ₹25,11,900.
The funds have been utilised in various activities such as in the renovation of the school building and girls’ hostel, construction of cycle stand, gates, toilets, urinals and library, in the procurement of sports equipment, computers, printers and projectors. The school is making the best use of technology by incorporating digital learning. Through Power Point presentations, learning has become simpler and more interactive.
Speaking on the success of the programme, the Headmaster of Christo Jyoti High School, Madhupur said, “Mo School Abhiyan is a unique programme launched by the Government of Odisha involving the alumni for the all-round development of their alma mater.”
The associated alumni members have also expressed their satisfaction and happiness on being re-associated with their school through this one-of-its-kind initiative. They said that Mo School has brought them together and provided them with a common platform where they can plan, execute and keep a check on the undergoing activities, ensuring transparency.
